Shopping for custom bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses should be a joyous occasion of bonding. But when a toxic, opinionated family member takes over the appointment, it can quickly turn into a nightmare.
21-year-old bride Jessica arrived at the salon with a clear vision: her wedding was a formal, black-tie affair, and she wanted her lifelong best friends to wear elegant, flowy black bridesmaid dresses. However, her mother, Elizabeth, had a completely different agenda. Self-described by her daughter as a “redneck” who prefers shooting beer cans off fences, Elizabeth explicitly hated the formal theme. The dress was formal, flattering, and exactly what Jessica envisioned for her black-tie wedding. “I’m saying yes to Mara’s dress,” Jessica declared confidently.
